#TheAppleEvent And How We Can Take Advantage of Technology

Yesterday I watched the Apple Event live from my phone. There was quite a lot of hype on the internet regarding this event as people were looking forward to what innovations Apple has in store for us. Amongst the highlights were:

  • Apple watch
  • iPad Pro
  • Apple pencil
  • Apple TV
  • iPhone 6s & 6s plus

My aim in this post is not to highlight what happened at the apple event but to use that as a pedestal to talk about how we can take advantage of the innovations and advances in technology in our worship of God to bring him the glory and honor that he so rightly deserves.

Amongst the worship community there has been a lot of technology bashing going on with preachers claiming that a physical bible is the way to go because you can hear the pages turning, and you won’t be distracted by things like Facebook or twitter and so on, to people not wanting people to take videos of the worship and a whole lot of other things that different preachers and worship leaders have problems with.

I am here to say that Technology is not our foe, technology is not an enemy of the worship of God, it’s not an enemy of the worship experience. Instead of bashing technology what we should be asking ourselves is HOW CAN WE USE TECHNOLOGY TO ENHANCE OUR WORSHIP EXPERIENCE?

The devil is using technology to further his cause and the church is just making noise about how people are idolizing technology and such other statements. You can make all the noise you want until the cows come home but the truth is more and more people spend time on a computer, on a phone, a tablet and so on. People are not going to stop, with the way things are going more and more are going to be latching on. And even as the old technology averse generation is passing away the new technology hooked generation is rising up.

As more and more people spend times on their phones and devices, we as spiritual leaders should become innovative in our ways of connecting with the people we lead especially if you are leading a big church where you can’t interact with everyone physically but now technology avails you the opportunity to connect with everyone you lead and to be able to encourage, exhort, share and also get feedback and to know how the people you are leading are faring and to get feedback on the work that you are doing.

Take advantage of the following:

  • LIVE STREAMING

Now with periscope a preacher can connect with the congregation during the week. You don’t have to preach a sermon, you can just greet your followers, share a verse and encourage people for their day and then get feedback about what people are facing in their day. The worship leader can stream their practices or when they are writing a new song and so on. You can now even live stream an album launch for the musicians and get your music out there because the picture and video quality is getting better and better.

There is also where you can live stream your events either on youtube or on your website so that whoever did not come to church and also people from other nations can tune in to what God is doing.

  • SOCIAL SITES

As a leader be constantly interacting with those you lead on facebook, twitter, whatsapp, instagram and so on. Now technology gives us a chance to be with people everyday. It just doesn’t have to be on Sunday morning only, or at Wednesday bible study.

For worship leaders you can share your song list ideas during the week to your worship team, discuss keys and so on so that during rehearsal you do not have to go through all that. There are so many possible benefits.

Right now technology has given us a chance to minister to people we would never have been able to do so to. Lets use it to spread the fame of God in the earth, to make his praise glorious, to preach the gospel to every creature. Lets crowd the techno sphere with the word of God for it is more powerful than a two edged sword and it is able to do the work.

It is important to note that technology should never replace human interaction. However it can enhance human interaction.
